Welcome to Aceh Tourism Website
Aceh invites you to come and experience this beautiful,
provocative and picturesque part of the world. A return
to tourism is essential for the region to grow and
flourish in the aftermath of devastation. Aceh was
thrust into the international spotlight amid the
devastation of the earthquake and resultant tsunami
which killed over 130,000 Achenese on 26 December, 2004.
Despite the tragedy the Achenese have shown their
resilience and passion for life. With the help of the
numerous international aid agency operating in the
region, Aceh is recovering well and is back on the
tourist map.
If you are after beaches, culture, history and the great
outdoors look no further than Aceh.

Diving/Snorkeling
Pulau Weh off the coast of Aceh is renowned for it's
diving and visitor come from all over the world to see
the rare marine life that inhabit its breathtaking coral
reefs. The key destination is Pulau Weh. From this
island there are three main dive locations. Gapang with
it's tranquil beach and incredible reef. Iboih famed for
the brilliant colour and sheer beauty of its coral reefs
and the possibility of spotting hawksbills turtles. The
Sea Garden on Rubiah Island is truly a heaven for coral
lovers. It is home to the Rubiah Sea Garden Marine
National Park. Many rare sea creatures inhabit the park,
such as whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and
dolphins. To visit Rubiah Island, you must charter a
boat in Iboih.

Raya Baiturrahman
The Great Baiturrahman Mosque is a key icon of Banda
Aceh, lying at the heart of the city . It's presence is
significant/extraordinary in both spiritual and
architectural merit. It has five onion shaped domes, two
tall minaret's, wide white walls, and is encompassed by
pillars of various beautiful ornaments. The Mosque was
originally built around the 12th Century and had caught
fire several times, including when the Dutch attacked
Koetaradja (Banda Aceh) in 1873. The current mosque was
built by Dutch Military Government in 1883 to replace
the former.
